Larry Payne is the Construction Superintendent for Miller & Smith’s Single Family Homes at Brambleton in Ashburn, Virginia. He has been with Miller & Smith for over 8 years now and is a big reason for Miller & Smith’s ongoing success at Brambleton.
“When you’re with one company year after year after year, all of the quality control systems and processes in place become second nature,” said Larry. “Consistency is key. When a customer falls in love with a Miller & Smith model, they can feel confident that their own home will be built to the same high standards.”
If you ask Larry the key to being a good Superintendent, he’ll say you need three things: a good head, good ears and eyes that can see into the future.
“You need a good head to keep all of your subcontractors coordinated and on schedule,” said Larry. “You also have to be a good listener, so you can anticipate homeowners concerns and address them before they become problems. And you need to be able to look into the future and project possible conflicts or delays so you already have a back-up plan long before you need it.”
That’s not to say that delays never happen on Larry’s watch, but you can rest assured that he and his team are doing everything in their power to deliver homes on time. More often than not, homebuyers recognize this and appreciate everything Larry does to make the construction process smooth and enjoyable. They even invite Larry over to celebrate.
“On several occasions, homeowners have invited me to their parties,” said Larry. “It feels good knowing how much they appreciate the hard work that goes into their home.”
