Mix and match furniture
Even though you may think that shopping for a furniture set will save you lots of money, this is no longer the case! As New Homes Guide calls it, “moderated modern” style is utilizing a modern design base while adding things in that reflect your personal taste. With furniture, it’s now acceptable to have multiple different styles of chairs or furniture materials in the same room.
Farmhouse Chic style
We have seen the Farmhouse Chic aesthetic become a mainstream style over the past few years, and it does not seem to be slowing down. With popular TV shows such as Fixer Upper recreating this style over and over again, it continues to be one of the most desired home design styles today. From raw wood textures to natural motifs and bright white spaces, it is hard not to fall in love with this comfortable and welcoming style.
At-home bars
In the kitchen, dining room, rec room, or study, at-home bars are a must-have feature in your new home. Even if you aren’t one for cocktails, this is more of a trend for show, and adds sophistication to any space. These have been popular for as long as we can remember, but have taken on a modern resurgence in the past few years. Now, an at home bar can be anything from a small bar cart to a large built in counter and cabinet space!
Smart storage spaces
Storage is a huge factor in purchasing a new home, and it really provides an added benefit for families who are planning to grow or even those who need more storage to begin with. Closets are great, but don’t be afraid to make storage a part of a room design or utilize furniture with storage capabilities. Multipurpose storage is a huge space saver, and it is an inventive way to keep your clutter contained!
Sleek lines and shapes
At some point, we realized that too much can definitely be enough. The sleek lines we see in today’s home design add an element of simplicity and minimalism that reflect our want for streamlined and uncluttered spaces. The kitchen in the Silverton model home at Aspen North at Lake Linganore is a great example of simplified shapes, where the cabinets and counters are not cluttered with overly ornate edges.
A pop of color
Last but not least, when has a pop of color ever been a bad thing? If anything, one or two pops of color complete the design of a room in a way that nothing else could! Add in a colorful rug, or an assortment of throw pillows on chairs and couches for spots of color in your home.
